Danger At The Door DANGER AT THE DOOR + WILLOWS | MONDAY 06/02/12

Brisbane Boys, Luke, Ryan and Nathan Hourihane are three brothers, who formed Danger at the Door less than six months ago, finding fourth band member Keelan Callaghan on a musician advertising website. The boys have quickly become the best Rock band in the world. That’s right you heard me, Beatles, Rolling Stones, you guys suck!

DATD have been busy writing, recording and playing gigs ever since. A promotional video for the song “Devil” was filmed at their latest show at The Globe theatre by Red tape productions.

Danger at the Door have already recorded a four track demo and have been told they have similarities to bands such as Foo Fighters, Rage against the machine and Blink 182.

Playing such epic gigs as “Big Al’s garage” in front of crowds of up to 15 people, DATD make woman weak at the Knees and Rock gods bow down in front of them.

Plastic Wood PLASTIC WOOD + THE FUSS | SATURDAY 11/02/12

Launched in front of a packed crowd at the Globe Theatre, Brisbane and featuring artwork by local visual artists Mandie-Jean Baker and Sam Armstrong, Plastic Wood’s debut album ‘Australian Weather’ has been nearly a year in the studio, however many more in the making. A diverse 13-track collection of songs about life lethargy, social politics, casual alcoholism and the people around us – surprisingly nothing to do with the weather - Australian Weather is far-removed from modest beginnings as the ‘real-life music that doesn’t fit in your main band.’

On the surface, Australian Weather is easily accessible with touches of 20th century rock, 70s folk and pop songwriter influence, however multiple listens will reveal a vulnerable journey best listened to as a whole album – a concept many have lost with the modern direction of commercial radio.

Bunkered underground for the best part of the year, Plastic Wood have been traversing the treacherous trail of recording an entire album before letting the world know. Bassist Nik Strugar knows there are advantages to being so covert:

‘We were determined to track, mix and produce this album ourselves, at our own leisure or frustration. Producers, advisers and chauffeurs can be fantastic, however the honesty of creating and ending up with something we can be proud of is worth every second.’

The play seemed to be worth it, however, as the lead up to the album launch saw the band share the Friends of Folk Festival bill with esteemed artists such as Don Walker, Robert Forster and The Gin Club, appear on Balcony TV and Alivelive TV for their Brisbane launch show and launch their debut film clip for Under the Evergreen, which found its way into the Top 10 Brag.com rock videos.

According to Time Off magazine, the wait for the release of Australian Weather has been ‘well and truly worth it.’ Now it’s here, Plastic Wood is keen to share their dynamic, literary brand of folk ‘n’ roll intimately with their increasing and loyal fanbase.

Mister Speaker MISTER SPEAKER | SUNDAY 12/02/12

Continuing in the esteemed tradition of soul, blues and big band entertainers comes MrSpeaker, a funk juggernaut with a sound and style for dance-floor fanatics and backseat connoisseurs alike.

The group began about four years ago on the NSW North Coast with a rhythm section of consisting of Mick Hidden on kit, Kieran Allen on bass and Tim Annis-Brown on guitar, complimented by the melodies of jazz saxophonist Matt Brooker and the distinctive vocals of Greg Corcoran. They have since been joined by some of the areas finest, including John Graham on percussion and clarinet, as well as Sonia Leeson on vocals.

The band has spent years honing their craft in East Coast venues and collaborating with an array of musicians, always on the prowl for worthy new additions in the fertile hunting grounds of the Byron Shire. MrSpeaker has made this area their stomping ground, constantly road-testing new ideas and fresh material in an effort to combine the best of their musical heroes with their own approach to the styles of jazz, funk, swing and reggae, to name but a few. The result of this process, combined with countless hours in the studio is a tight, energetic band with an enormous repertoire of original material.

Taking their lead from a legacy of 20th century Afro-American musical heavyweights from the big bands of the swing era to Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, the Meters and many more, MrSpeaker know what it takes to move an audience emotionally and physically and do not rest until they have done just that.

Thirteen Seventy THIRTEEN SEVENTY + THE PURGATORIES | THURSDAY 16/02/12

Thirteen Seventy is a noise rock band from Brisbane, Australia. They combine unruly rock & roll, searing guitar noise and delicate atmospherics with strong songwriting sensibilities indebted to early 90's Seattle as well as Australia’s rich underground music history.

Formed in 2011, the band initially spent much of their time writing songs, developing their sound and doing an occasional low-key live performance. Since April 2011, Thirteen Seventy has been steadily working on a series of recordings at Blackbox Studios with Brisvegan guitar god Jeff Lovejoy along with a select cast of special guest contributors.

Chief songwriter, guitarist & vocalist Clint Morrow has previously played guitar & bass for Bertie Page Clinic, banjo in The Good Ship and was the founding member of succesful Brisbane quartet, The Soundcasters, who released an album in 2009. Bass & backing vocals are handled by Tony Parker, and Brisbane’s busiest drummer, James Lees (Silver Sircus, The Good Ship) rounds out the trio.

In January 2012, Thirteen Seventy digitally released their debut single "Labour In Vain", accompanied by a video clip created by Nerves Like Steel Productions. The band are busy preparing for another single release & video clip as well as putting the finishing touches to debut album "Arrest The Slide", due for release in the second half of the year.

London Bureau LONDON BUREAU + IRONSIDE | FRIDAY 17/02/12

After their first show at The Hangar in Red Hill, Brisbane, Australia, the invitations from promoters with support slots started rolling in. The phone was ringing hot with requests to play shows at Brisbane's hottest live venues.

With crowds growing at each gig, London Bureau found that word of mouth in Brisbane was securing more and more punters to every show. Their loyal following began to grow until they found themselves thrilling large crowds each week.

Unfortunately, with the loss of their drummer around the beginning of 2010 London Bureau had to take a break. It was a short hiatus as the band reformed with a new line-up. The new London Bureau is Elliot Schoemaker on guitar and vocals, Fiona Schoemaker on bass and vox and Julian Roberts on drums and vox.

With the change came a move away from the twangy, garage blues and a move into the realms of leather-clad attitude with wall-of-sound power of the likes of BRMC and Von Bondies. This grunt backs the pop hooks and harmonies you might well hear on a QOTSA or Band of Skulls album.

The revamped London Bureau took some time off from playing shows to concentrate on determining their sound and writing new material whilst readying themselves for the recording of their first EP. The EP has been recorded and is now in the pipeline for release in February 2012.

Having written and played together for over 20 years, siblings Elliot and Fiona have no problem finding new material. Matched by Julian's razor sharp grooves and killer harmonies, there is so much London Bureau has left to say.

Keep your eyes here as GOREFIELD continues its invasion into the world of Metal music.
